Frequently asked questions.

How much do karts cost?

The price of a kart ranges depending on the class you’re entering, the age and condition of the kart. A good childrens kart would be in the region of £400 and a good adults kart would be £650-£1,200.

What classes do you run?

Currently, as of 2023, we run seven classes. Classes are categorised by age of competitor and engine size. Our classes are: 70cc, 90cc, 125cc 2 stroke, 125cc 2 stroke jnr, 125cc snr, 250cc 4 stroke and 250cc open.

Where can I buy a Kart from?

Club members are the best places to start as you can see an kart running before you buy it. We’d recommend coming to a race day as there are normally karts for sale, you can also contact us online for more info or Facebook marketplace, search for Grass Karts.

Do you only race in Summer?

Our grass season runs through the summer but we do try to put on winter events on shale (subject to weather).

How old do you have to be to race?

The Club Recommends at least 7 years old to race, there is no upper limit!

While the club suggests age group categories, we warmly welcome all drivers of any age to reach out to the club. By combining experience, heritage, and confidence, we can collectively make informed decisions.

I've never raced karts before, is that ok?

Yes that’s fine! We’d recommend doing several “arrive-and-drive” sessions before hand so you’re used to go karts before you arrive. Every new driver will be asked to start the first few races from the back of the grid so they can get used to the racing at their own speed.

Do you need a license to race?

No, no form of license is needed.

Apart from the Kart, what else do I need?

You will need: helmet with face protection/goggles, overalls / race suit, racing gloves, powder fire extinguisher. Please check the club handbook for more information.

Is there first aid on site?

Yes, first Aiders are on site for every race as well as a fully trained paramedic.

Is it dangerous?

As with every form of Motorsport there is obvious danger. However, every precaution is in place to make sure the risk is kept to a minimum.

Is the club looking for new members?

Yes, we’re always looking for new racers, helpers and spectators! Please contact us or come along to a race meeting.

Can my child race even if they haven’t done much karting before?

Yes. We’d recommend them doing several “arrive-and-drive” sessions before hand so they are used to go karts before their first race. Every new driver will be asked to start the first few races from the back of the grid so they can get used to the racing at their own speed.

Are spectators welcome?

Yes! Spectators are very welcome at no charge, we just ask they are take care when walking through the pit lane and the near the track.
